Terms of Service
The contract between you and Nine Rooms — ownership, AI use, liability, and Texas law.
Agreement
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a contract between you and the operator of Nine Rooms ("we," "us," "our"). By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these Terms, our Privacy Policy, and our Acceptable Use Policy.
If you do not agree, do not use Nine Rooms.
What Nine Rooms is
Nine Rooms is a writing and publishing studio for authors — from story seeds through revision, export, and publishing prep. It includes optional AI assistance (the Apprentice) powered by xAI's Grok API.
We provide tools and guidance, not legal, financial, or publishing advice. Checklists in The Bindery point to official distributor documentation; they are workshop aids, not counsel.
Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract. You may need approval before your account is activated — we reserve the right to decline or revoke access to protect the platform and our users.
Your content
You own the fiction and other material you create in Nine Rooms ("Your Content"). We do not claim copyright over your manuscripts, characters, or exports.
You are responsible for Your Content — including ensuring you have the rights to what you write, store, and publish elsewhere, and that it does not violate law or these Terms.
Content you store on our servers must comply with these Terms and our Acceptable Use Policy, even if you never use AI features.
License you grant us
To run the studio, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, process, display, transmit, and back up Your Content solely as necessary to provide and improve Nine Rooms, enforce these Terms, respond to support and abuse reports, and comply with law.
This license does not let us sell Your Content, license it to other authors, or use it to train models for other users without your separate opt-in consent.
Apprentice AI features
AI output may be inaccurate, incomplete, or inappropriate. You are responsible for reviewing and editing anything you use from the Apprentice before publishing.
Your use of AI features is also governed by xAI's Terms of Service (https://x.ai/legal/terms-of-service) and Acceptable Use Policy (https://x.ai/legal/acceptable-use-policy).
You may not jailbreak, adversarially prompt, multi-turn coax, rephrase after refusals, seed toxic premises, attack revision or support flows, or otherwise circumvent model safeguards. See our Acceptable Use Policy for the full list.
We log Grok refusals and suspected evasion attempts (metadata only) and may open a compliance case file. Repeated violations can result in Apprentice suspension or account termination.
Misuse of AI features jeopardizes API access for every author on the platform.
Content entry and migration
Nine Rooms is designed for structured manual entry — not general file upload. You type or paste into studio fields.
Admin-assisted migration from other writing tools is available by request. You must consent to good-faith inspection before migrated content is imported. We do not offer self-service upload of manuscript files.
We do not continuously scan drafts as you write. Export and migration paths include compliance checkpoints described in our Acceptable Use Policy.
Law enforcement and legal discovery requests
Nine Rooms respects lawful process. If you are a law enforcement officer, attorney, regulator, or other party with authority to request user or account information, you may submit a request through our Legal & Discovery Requests portal (https://ninerooms.online/nine-rooms/legal-requests) or by emailing legal@ninerooms.online with "Legal discovery request" in the subject line.
We do not provide automatic or self-service download of user data, manuscripts, or compliance case files. Every request receives a tracking number (format LD-YYYY-####), is logged in our records, and is reviewed by our administrator and legal counsel before any records are produced.
If your request relates to an existing safety or compliance matter, include our incident case number (format NR-YYYY-####) when you have it so we can link your request to the correct case file.
We may ask for a copy of your subpoena, search warrant, court order, or other legal instrument. We may notify a user before disclosure where the law allows. We may deny or narrow requests that are overbroad, invalid, or inconsistent with applicable law.
Emergency requests involving imminent danger to a person should also be directed to local emergency services. For child sexual exploitation involving a real child, report to NCMEC's CyberTipline in addition to contacting us.
Acceptable use
Our Acceptable Use Policy is part of these Terms. In short: Nine Rooms is for lawful creative writing and publishing preparation. It is not for illegal harm, exploitation, fraud, harassment, or circumventing AI safety systems.
Abuse of free runways, credits, or AI capacity — including multi-account farming and using the studio as a generation proxy — is prohibited and detailed in our Acceptable Use Policy.
See the full policy for categories, examples, and our reporting process.
Plans, credits, and payment
Some features use a free studio runway, prepaid novel credits, subscriptions, or one-time unlocks. What is included, exhausted, or paid is shown in the studio (for example, free write allowance on a novel, then a top-up or publish path). Pricing and credit rules are shown at purchase or in-product. Fees are non-refundable except where required by law or explicitly stated otherwise.
Free and promotional Apprentice allowance exists so you can try writing a novel in Nine Rooms. It is not a general-purpose computing credit, not a substitute for your own AI API keys, and not a resource to maximize across accounts, automation, or agents.
You may not farm, stockpile, or extract free or promotional allowance — including by creating multiple accounts, automating registration or studio use, driving the interface solely to consume generation budget, discarding projects only to reset free runway, or using Nine Rooms as a proxy for unrelated generative work. We may limit, pause, or revoke free allowance, require payment before further AI use, suspend accounts, or take other steps described in our Acceptable Use Policy when we detect abuse or risk to the service.
Using software agents, scripts, or browser automation on your behalf does not expand your rights. Your agents must follow these Terms and our Acceptable Use Policy the same way you must.
Suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, our Acceptable Use Policy, or xAI's policies; if your conduct risks harm to other users or the platform; or if required by law.
You may stop using Nine Rooms at any time. Contact us to request account deletion.
Disclaimers
Nine Rooms is provided "as is" and "as available." We disclaim warranties to the fullest extent permitted by Texas law, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We do not guarantee uninterrupted service, error-free AI output, or that exports will meet every distributor's requirements without your review.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by Texas law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of Nine Rooms.
Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of (a) amounts you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or (b) one hundred U.S. dollars ($100).
Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold us harmless from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from Your Content, your use of Nine Rooms, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third party's rights — including claims that published work defames someone or infringes copyright.
Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
Except where prohibited, you agree that exclusive jurisdiction and venue for disputes arising from these Terms or Nine Rooms lies in the state or federal courts located in Texas.
You waive any right to participate in a class action against us to the extent such waiver is enforceable.
Changes
We may update these Terms. We will post the new version and update the effective date. Material changes will be communicated by email or in-app notice. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
